Scholarships Overview

Committed to supporting and promoting the most qualified academic applicants to its programmes, BI is pleased to offer several generous scholarship opportunities.

For Bachelor applicants

  BACHELOR INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP  (for Bachelor applicants)

Awarded to students with a strong academic record, the Bachelor International Scholarship is open to international applicants who apply with an international education.

Eligibility

Applicants who apply for, and are accepted in, the Bachelor of Business Administraion or the Bachelor of Business Analytics programme who display above average grades from Upper Secondary School and/or University from a school outside Norway.

How to Apply

•  Write a scholarship application letter, maximum one-page, outlining why you are deserving of this scholarship.
•  Upload the scholarship application letter with your complete application for admission on the online application portal under the section ‘Scholarship.’

Scholarship applications must be received by 1 March.

Selection of Recipients

BI Norwegian Business School aims to build a diverse and international student body.

•  BI ensures distribution of scholarships between the Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Business Analytics programmes.
•  Priority may be given to applicants from selected countries.
•  All candidates will be assessed based on their transcripts.
•  Other factors that may influence ranking can be additional academic achievements, extracurricular achievements, and special personal achievements.

Scholarship Award

The Scholarship will cover 50% of the tuition fee for each semester of the programme, pending the student achieves the academic progression requirements. Total value of the scholarship over the course of the three-year degree programme is approximately NOK 125,000.

1. Full study progression (30 ECTS) in each semester.

2. Minimum cumulative GPA of a "B" on the BI ECTS scale after completion of each academic semester.

3. Candidates who are awarded the Bachelor International Scholarship must be prepared to be "BI Ambassadors", acting as spokespeople, assisting in recruitment efforts and promoting a good study environment. The details regarding responsibilities will be specified in the Scholarship Contract.

  BI-INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE SCHOLARSHIP  (for Bachelor applicants)

Awarded to students who graduate from the International Baccalaureate® (IB) programme with a strong academic record, the BI-International Baccalaureate scholarship is open to international and Norwegian applicants.

Eligibility

Applicants who hold an International Baccalaureate® Diploma and who apply for, and are accepted in, the Bachelor of Business Administration or the Bachelor of Business Analytics degree programme.

The candidate must have achieved a minimum of 33 total points in the International Baccalaureate® Diploma.

How to apply


•  Write a scholarship application letter, maximum one-page, outlining why you are deserving of this scholarship.
•  Upload the scholarship application letter with your complete application for admission on the online application portal under the section for ‘IB Scholarship’.
•  Give BI Norwegian Business School access to your official transcript of grades by 1 May.

Application Deadline

Scholarship applications must be received by 1 March.

Selection of Recipients

BI Norwegian Business School aims to build a diverse and international student body.

Scholarship Award

The Scholarship will cover 100% of the tuition fee for each semester of the programme, pending the student achieves the academic progression requirements. Total value of the scholarship over the course of the three-year degree programme is approximately NOK 250,000.

1. Full study progression (30 ECTS) in each semester.

2. Minimum cumulative GPA of a "B" on the BI ECTS scale after completion of each academic semester.

3. Candidates who are awarded the BI-International Baccalaureate Scholarship must be prepared to be "BI Ambassadors", acting as spokespeople, assisting in recruitment efforts and promoting a good study environment. The details regarding responsibilities will be specified in the Scholarship Contract.

For Master of Science applicants

  BI PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP  (for Master applicants)

Awarded to students who possess an outstanding record of superior academic achievement, the BI Presidential Scholarship is open to Norwegian and international applicants.

Eligibility:

Candidates with a GPA of A on the ECTS scale or equivalent top-level grade on international grade scales who apply for, and are admitted to, a Master of Science programme.

Students currently enrolled in BI's Siviløkonom programme are eligible to apply in their 3rd year.

The BI Presidential Scholarship is open to applicants to all Master of Science programmes.

How to apply:

•  Write a scholarship application letter, maximum one-page, outlining why you are deserving of this scholarship and how your academic record qualifies you for consideration.
•  Upload the scholarship application letter with your complete application for admission on the online application portal.

Students currently enrolled in BI's Sivøk programme can apply in their third year by sending the scholarship application letter to myfuture@bi.no.

Applications from Sivøk students must be received by March 1.

Selection of Recipients:

•  BI ensures distribution of scholarships among MSc programmes.
•  Priority may be given to applicants from selected countries, selected partner schools of BI, or enrolled in priority master's programmes.
•  All candidates will be assessed according to the ECTS scale. Applicants with international bachelor's degrees will have their grades converted to the ECTS scale.
•  Other factors that may influence ranking can be other academic achievements, GMAT/GRE/CAT scores, extracurricular achievements, and special personal achievements.
•  Preference is given to applicants seeking to earn their first master’s degree.

Scholarship Award:

Norwegian Recipients: Scholarships will cover full tuition fees for each semester, for up to two years, if the student achieves the academic progression requirements.

 

International Recipients: Scholarships will cover full tuition fees and a stipend for living expenses for each semester, for up to two years, if the student achieves the academic progression requirements.

Academic Progression Requirements:

All candidates must meet academic progression requirements in order to maintain their scholarship.

1. Full study progression (30 ECTS) in each semester.

2. Minimum cumulative GPA of a "B" on the BI ECTS scale after completion of each academic semester.

3. Candidates who are awarded the BI Presidential Scholarship must be prepared to be "BI Ambassadors", acting as spokespeople, assisting in recruitment efforts and promoting a good study environment. The details regarding responsibilities will be specified in the Scholarship Contract.

Number of Scholarships:

A maximum of 20 scholarships for international applicants and 10 scholarships for Norwegian applicants are available for the academic year commencing Autumn 2019.

 

Please note:

1. You may apply for more than one scholarship; however, BI Norwegian Business School will award only one scholarship per student.

2. International candidates who are eligible for a regular student loan through the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund (have at least 180 ECTS from a Norwegian educational institution) may apply for the BI Presidential Scholarship only. You do not qualify for a stipend for living expenses.

3. Candidates who have already earned a master’s degree are not given priority for scholarships.

 

Only candidates admitted to a Master of Science programme commencing Autumn 2019 will be considered for this scholarship.

  MASTER OF SCIENCE INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP  (for Master applicants)

Awarded to students with a strong academic record, the MSc International Scholarships are open to international applicants.

Eligibility:

Candidates demonstrating strong academic performance who apply for, and are accepted in, a Master of Science degree.

How to apply:

•  Write a scholarship application letter, maximum one-page, outlining why you are deserving of this scholarship and how your academic record qualifies you for consideration.
•  Upload the scholarship application letter with your complete application for admission on the online application portal.

Application Deadline:

Admission applications, including your scholarship application, must be received by March 1.

Awarded to students with a strong academic record, this scholarship is open to international applicants beginning their degree at Campus Bergen.

Eligibility:

Candidates demonstrating strong academic performance who apply for, and are accepted in the MSc in Business programme at Campus Bergen.

How to apply:

•  Write a scholarship application letter, maximum one-page, outlining why you are deserving of this scholarship and how your academic record qualifies you for consideration.
• Upload the scholarship application letter with your complete application for admission on the online application portal.

Application Deadline:

  A. WILHELMSEN FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME  (for Master applicants)

Supporting international students in their pursuit of a Master of Science degree.

 

Since 2010, the A. Wilhelmsen Foundation has supported international students at BI Norwegian Business School through a generous scholarship programme. The objective of The A. Wilhelmsen Foundation scholarship is to contribute to the financing of education in Norway for international students.

 

To be eligible for this scholarship, the candidate must apply for admission to, and be accepted in, a Master of Science programme at BI Norwegian Business School.

 

Please note that it is not possible to apply for a scholarship directly through the Wilhelmsen Foundation. To be considered, applicants must include a scholarship application letter addressed to the attention of the A. Wilhelmsen Foundation Board with their application for admission via BI’s online application portal.

Who can apply:

Applicants who are residents of countries outside Norway. Wilhelmsen's many areas of activity include the Baltic region, Russia, Portugal, and the Caribbean. Candidates from these regions are especially encouraged to apply.

How to apply:

All applicants must write a scholarship application letter for this specific scholarship, addressed to the A. Wilhelmsen Foundation Board, to be uploaded with your application for admission. The letter should be maximum one page. You are advised to include your goals and motivation for studying at BI, your career ambitions, and how you feel that you can contribute to the programme and study environment. It is also important to include information regarding your family and economic situation, and explain why you feel the scholarship is necessary for you to fulfill your education and career ambitions.

Criteria:

Grades from previous studies, previous experiences, personal ambitions and financial need are part of the decision criteria.

Admission application, including your scholarship application, must be received by March 1.

Selection of Recipients

A committee consisting of representatives from A. Wilhelmsen Foundation and BI Norwegian Business School will carry out the selection of scholarship recipients. BI aims for a national and international mix in the student body. Hence, priority may be given to applicants from selected countries, selected partner schools of BI, or enrolled in priority master's programmes. Preference is given to applicants seeking to earn their first master’s degree.

 

The final decision cannot be appealed.

Scholarship Award

The value of this scholarship is and the size of the scholarship is NOK 150.000 annually (75.000 per semester). The scholarship will be administered by BI who is also responsible for the academic follow-up of the recipients. Study progression by the recipients will be followed, and scholarship payments to the student for each semester of the master's degree is dependent on satisfactory study progression, as outlined in the Scholarship Contract.

 

No internship, thesis counseling, or job opportunities are attached to this scholarship, but previous recipients have been able to make personal agreements when possibilities have arisen.

Conditions for Renewal for Second Year:

1. Full study progression (30 ECTS) in each semester.

2. Minimum cumulative GPA of a "B" on the ECTS scale after completion of each academic semester.

3. Candidates who are awarded the scholarship must be prepared to be "BI Ambassadors", acting as spokespeople, assisting in recruitment efforts and promoting a good study environment. The details regarding responsibilities will be specified in the Scholarship Contract.

This scholarship is awarded to candidates with a strong academic record who visit the BI Norwegian Business School booth at a QS World Grad School Fair.

Eligibility:

Candidates demonstrating strong academic performance who attend a QS World Grad Tour Fair where BI participates, and who apply for the scholarship via the QS website. Candidates must apply for, and be accepted in, a Master of Science degree at BI Norwegian Business School.

How to apply:

Write a scholarship application letter, maximum one page, outlining why you are deserving of this scholarship and apply via the QS website.

 

Upload the same application letter with your application for admission on the BI application portal.

Application Deadline:

Scholarship applications must be received by April 1.

For PhD applicants

  PHD SCHOLARSHIPS

BI offers PhD scholarships to support students in the six areas of specialisation at the PhD level.

 

The doctoral programme leads to a PhD degree and is a four-year full-time study programme, including 25% teaching responsibilities.

 

There are no tuition fees in the PhD programme at BI. However, in order to have an application to the PhD programme at BI considered, you need to have funding. It is not possible to self-fund a PhD at BI.

 

THERE ARE THREE DIFFERENT WAYS OF FUNDING YOUR PHD AT BI

Open scholarship (funded by BI)

These scholarships are announced once a year, from November to January. The scholarships are open which means that your PhD will not be linked to a specific project but must fit it under one of the six specialisations offered by BI. A member of the academic faculty must share you research interests to be able to supervise you. A supervisor will be appointed for you if you are admitted to the programme.

 

PhD candidates will have their daily workplace and shared office at BI Norwegian Business School in Oslo, Norway. Scholarship positions are announced online under vacant positions. All applications are electronic. If there are no scholarships published on the page in the previous link, there are currently no available scholarships.

Scholarship linked to a research project

These scholarships are announced from time to time. Your PhD research and dissertation will have to be closely linked to the research project. You are usually not required to find a supervisor before applying. You are encouraged to contact the faculty involved in the project if you are interested in applying. Each project will belong to one of the six specialisations at BI. In some cases the project can be linked to more than one specialisation.

 

PhD candidates will have their place of work at BI Norwegian Business School in Oslo, Norway. Available PhD scholarship positions linked to research projects are announced online under vacant positions.

Industrial PhD

An industrial PhD is a doctoral degree that is carried out in cooperation between BI and business and industry. If you are considering this kind of PhD and have funding and confirmation from your employer please contact phd@bi.no for further information. An industrial PhD has the same requirements for educational background for admission and is also considered a full-time programme. BI and the employer enter into an agreement regarding time spent at BI and time spent at the employer in addition to financial issues.
